This is my favorite of the Ito En teas. Sadly, no one even remotely close to me sells it so I love that I can order it to my door step. Buying it a couple cases at a time and getting that free shipping ensures I never run out.

Very good, very good

Very pleasant and complex flavor! Wonderful!
This drink tastes pretty good. I accidentally ordered this one instead of the sweetened one because apparently I'm an idiot so it ended up not being my favorite... Nothing negative to say about it, however. 7/10

A wonderful roasted aroma and mellow, toasty flavor — exactly what you’d expect from authentic Hojicha. It’s smooth, naturally low in caffeine, and perfect for drinking in the evening. The tea brews cleanly with no bitterness, and each bag gives a full, rich taste. Excellent quality and very comforting, especially on a cool day. Highly recommend for anyone who loves Japanese roasted green tea!
Exactly what I wanted thank you

Finally restocked, long live Yamei! It tastes so good, the best green tea you can buy on the market, no doubt
Very delicious, not astringent

When they say unsweetened they mean UNSWEETENED no sugar whatsoever taste just like you made tea with the leaves and water nothing else no other ingredients added so I added some sugar one cup to be exact Perfect! Perfection! Delicious! Would get again. 😚

We answer everything you want to know about Hojicha.
Hojicha is a Japanese green tea that is distinctive because it is roasted in a porcelain pot over charcoal, unlike other green teas that are steamed. This roasting process gives it a unique smoky, nutty, and often caramel-like flavor, and a reddish-brown color.
Hojicha tastes toasty, nutty, and earthy with sweet notes of caramel, cocoa, or roasted nuts. It lacks the grassy flavor of other green teas due to its roasting process, creating a smooth, comforting profile with low bitterness and less caffeine.
No, Hojicha is not high in caffeine. The roasting process significantly reduces its caffeine content, making it a gentle, evening-friendly drink suitable for all ages. A typical cup has only 5-20 mg of caffeine, much less than matcha or coffee.
Hojicha types vary by the tea parts used (leaves, stems/twigs), roast level (light to dark), and form (loose leaf, powder). Common varieties include leaf Hojicha, Kukicha Hojicha (twig tea), and powdered Hojicha, each offering diverse flavors and uses.
Traditionally, Hojicha is prepared by steeping roasted green tea leaves in hot, near-boiling water (around 95-100°C or 200-212°F) for a short time (30-60 seconds). A relatively high leaf-to-water ratio is used, and preheating the teapot is recommended for best results to extract its smoky, nutty flavors.
