🍵 What is "莓茶"?
莓茶, also known as "Longevity Vine," grows in the Wuling Mountain range, centered around Zhangjiajie. It is a small-leaf variety of the snake grape plant, also called small-leaf vine tea. In 2013, it was approved as a new food ingredient by the former National Health and Family Planning Commission. This plant contains natural active compounds called flavonoids, with an average total flavonoid content exceeding 26% in its tender stems and leaves. The total flavonoid content in the bud tips can reach as high as 43.78%, making it the plant with the highest flavonoid content discovered so far, earning it the title of "King of Flavonoids." During processing, the cell walls break, allowing the flavonoid active ingredients to seep to the surface and form a layer of "white frost," hence the name "Meimei Tea."
🍵 What are the Benefits of Flavonoids?
- Antioxidant Properties: Flavonoids are powerful antioxidants that effectively eliminate free radicals in the body, preventing cell degeneration and aging, as well as reducing the risk of cancer.
- Improved Blood Circulation: They can enhance blood circulation, lower cholesterol, significantly reduce the incidence of cardiovascular diseases, and improve the symptoms of such diseases.
- Eye Health: Flavonoids have beneficial effects on diabetic retinopathy and capillary fragility.
- Wound Healing: They can inhibit the exudation of inflammatory enzymes, promoting wound healing and pain relief. Quercetin, a type of flavonoid, has strong antihistamine properties and can be used for various allergies.
- A study led by Dutch experts involving 4,807 participants found that those who consumed 375 milliliters of green tea daily had half the risk of heart disease compared to non-drinkers, with the incidence of fatal heart disease being only one-third. A significant reason for this is the flavonoids present in green tea (American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, April 25, 2002).
🍵 What are the Characteristics of “莓茶”?
Scientifically proven, Meimei Tea is an extremely precious plant left over from the Glacial Extinction event in the fourth century.
- It grows at altitudes of 400 to 1,500 meters.
- It requires year-round mist to maintain humidity.
- It is rooted in special quartz sandstone soil.
Zhangjiajie Meimei Tea is free of theine and caffeine, so it won't cause excitement after drinking. It can improve and enhance sleep quality, making it suitable for all ages. The active flavonoids in Meimei Tea can kill bacteria and can still be consumed a week after brewing without spoiling. It can be taken with both traditional Chinese and Western medicine, aiding in absorption. It does not contain tannins, allowing it to be consumed after meals without affecting protein absorption.
🍵 How to Brew “莓茶”?
- Brew with water above 90 degrees Celsius.
- No need to wash the tea; the first infusion has a 70% flavonoid extraction rate, making it the essence.
Note: The taste may vary due to differences in water temperature, water quantity, amount of tea leaves, and brewing time, which will also affect the drinking experience.
