In traditional Chinese medicine, the lungs are considered part of the Metal Element energy system and a major source of vital Qi which enlivens health and wellness. We inhale oxygen and receive Spirit, our connection with others, the atmosphere, and our environment through a deep, clear, strong breath. When weakened by fever, illness, or congestion, our energy, immunity, and mood suffer. We struggle for the breath of life.

MF Qing Qi Hua Tan Wan is a classic herbal formula that enhances breathing and vitality with tonic herbs including ginger, Baical Skullcap Root, and Ternate Pinellia which have a drying effect that transforms phlegm to help clear lung congestion and digestive bloating. Ternate Pinellia’s traditional indications of coughing and vomiting, however, are best understood as symbolic clues that point to the herb’s clinical potential in modern times, which include regulating high cholesterol, hypertension, and cancer. Other herbs included in this pill are poria and bitter almond kernels, which are used to direct lung energy downward to quell coughing.

People use this pill to help resolve thick yellow phlegm, ease coughing and improve breathing. Use it with a doctor’s advice if you take other medicines and are under a doctor’s care.
