This tasting cup is handcrafted by Master Hu Min, founder of Runcui Hall, under the Langhong Heritage tradition in Jingdezhen. Runcui Hall carries a profound legacy that can be traced back to the Hong family kiln of the late Kangxi period of the Qing dynasty. For centuries, the lineage has specialized in colored-glaze ceramics and was frequently commissioned by the Imperial Kiln for its exceptional glaze craftsmanship.
The Fortune on Horseback Piekou Cup features an elegant form with auspicious symbolism, seamlessly blending traditional cultural meaning with everyday practicality. The cup body is finished in a warm, silky white glaze. On the exterior, delicate blue-and-white painting depicts a lively galloping horse, head held high, carrying gold ingots on its back—symbolizing wealth accompanying one’s journey and good fortune at hand. Scattered around the horse are round coin motifs, representing prosperity surrounding you and abundance without end.
The phrase “Fortune on Horseback” is a clever double meaning: it signifies both “wealth immediately” and “wealth on horseback,” expressing heartfelt wishes for prosperity and smooth success. The base of the cup is coated in deep Xuande red glaze, dignified yet understated, creating a striking contrast with the refined blue-and-white decoration. The result is a balance of festive warmth and classical elegance.
With clean lines and harmonious proportions, this compact cup feels comfortable in hand. It is ideal for daily tea enjoyment and equally suitable as a New Year gift or an auspicious collectible.
More than a teacup, this Piekou cup is a vessel of blessings—bringing traditional aesthetics and goodwill into everyday life.
