Salvia miltiorrhiza, with its red color and bitter taste, is slightly cold in nature. It specifically enters the heart and liver blood parts and is a core and effective medicine for promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis. It can promote blood circulation, relieve symptoms and disperse nodules, and is good at treating various blood stasis syndromes such as chest pain, heart pain, irregular menstruation and mass accumulation. It can also cool the blood, eliminate abscesses, clear the heart and relieve irritability. It is used for sores, abscesses, swellings and toxins, as well as restlessness and insomnia. Modern research shows that its active ingredients can dilate coronary arteries, improve microcirculation and prevent thrombosis, so it is particularly commonly used in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. However, its nature tends to be downward and it has a significant power to promote blood circulation. Therefore, pregnant women, patients with bleeding, and those without blood stasis syndrome should take it with caution. It is also not advisable to use it together with Resveratrum.
